Our Journey

Shalini gave up her corporate HR career to begin her yoga journey in 2014. In the first year she spent at the Kaivalyadhama ashram in Pune learning yog and yogic philosophy, Shalini encountered the uncomfortable PVC foam yoga mats. These mats would peel continuously and bits of them would lie scattered on the floor each time you practice on them. Not to mention the terrible grip especially when you sweat. Moreover, the mat would slip and never stay stable in one place during advanced asana practice. Cleaning this mat was a nightmare and with all the sweat and body fluids getting absorbed into the foam mat, these mats were truly unhygienic.

After completing a year at the ashram, Shalini went onto Rishikesh to compete her 300 hrs TTC and she once again encountered the flimsy PVC foam yoga mats. What got her goat this time around was that these cheaply priced PVC foam mats were left behind by many of her colleagues when they finished the course and these sheets of plastic ended up in landfills near the pristine river Ganges.

As a yoga teacher and a yogini, she could clearly see a big problem which needed to be fixed. Her pursuit to find the right eco yoga mat led her eventually to create the finest eco yoga mat after several months of research and testing in early 2019. These mats have been designed ground up to address the key challenges which a yogi faces while practicing on traditional PVC foam mats. Using sustainable and biodegradable materials, Ida Yog mats are precisely engineered to help elevate your yoga practice. Our mats always have your back.
